Strange Things
This week I spent a few hours over at a friends house shooting for fun. The idea was to produce a mixture of shots based on the surroundings using whatever was immediately available to build a concept while also shooting some nice straightforward portraits. It's always great fun when working with concepts and as soon as I saw the dining room table I immediately began to get idea's as to which direction at least one of the shots during the the shoot was going to go. We had already decided during prior conversations that lingerie was going to be the main theme and I was interested in portraying the subject matter not only as you would expect in portraits, tasteful lingerie shots, but also in scenarios where such subject matter would be less expected.
I have always been interested in ordinary things placed in unusual surroundings that and the whole idea of placing one area of photography firmly within another, to create an unusual or even bizarre scenario. This is partly why I've always liked surreal photography. Beyond the skills involved and the science, it's the final results that just seem so open to creativity.
So.....after mocking up the beginnings of a dinner party, filling champagne glasses with a mixture of red bull and water, the stage was set for a lot of fun and games in the strange world of surreal photography.
In between all the strange going on's we also played with movement and got some great portraits to round off a few very funny and experimental hours.
